Everything hosts and guests need to know about recording and keeping video messages with Votive.

What is Votive, and what kinds of events is it for?

Votive turns an iPad into a video guestbook for weddings and other events. A host sets up an event on the iPad, and guests leave short video messages to keep after the event.

What do guests need to record a message?

Guests do not need to install an app, create an account, or use their own phone. They simply walk up to the host’s iPad, tap, and record.

Does Votive work without Wi-Fi?

Yes. After the app is downloaded and the purchase is made, recording, reviewing, and exporting work offline. Clips are saved locally on the iPad.

Where are recordings and event details stored?

Videos, photos, event names, prompts, settings, and exports are created and stored on the host’s iPad. Votive does not upload that event content to its own cloud service.

Can guests preview or retake a recording?

Yes. After recording, guests can preview their message and choose to save it or retake it. The host can enable or disable this option in the event settings.

Can I customize the guestbook for my event?

Yes. Votive includes six built-in color palettes, custom colors, and guided prompts. Hosts can use the included prompts or write their own.

How does the automatic highlight reel work?

The host can choose favorite clips, and Votive compiles them into a highlight reel with music on the iPad. The reel does not need to be uploaded for processing.

Does Votive include a Photo Booth?

Yes. Hosts can let guests take a photo after recording their video message, so the event can collect both videos and photos on the iPad.

How do I export videos and highlight reels?

Hosts can export individual clips or the full highlight reel with AirDrop, save them to Photos, or transfer them through the Files app.

How do event credits work?

A paid event credit unlocks one event with unlimited messages, high-definition exports, and no watermark. Votive offers access for one event or three events, and the App Store shows the price in local currency.

Which iPads can run Votive, and how much storage do recordings use?

Votive supports iPads running iOS 17 or later, including iPad 6th generation (2018) and newer. Video uses about 130 MB per minute, so available recording time depends on the free storage on the iPad.
